Patron BehaviorThe Canton Public Library strives to maintain a safe and appropriate environment within the building to facilitate the public’s use of the library’s resources and services. Children and adults alike are welcome and encouraged to use the Canton Public Library. In order to maintain a safe, orderly and proper environment for library use, all patrons are asked to observe “Our Expectations” which is posted at the entrance to the Children’s Room and inside the main entrance to the library. All patrons are expected to respect library staff, library property and other library patrons. When the behavior of a patron causes a disruption which interferes with the use of the library by other patrons, or interferes with a staff member’s ability to perform his/her duties, the patron will be asked to leave. If a patron refuses to leave, the police will be called. The staff member in charge has the right to call the police immediately if a patron’s behavior appears to be threatening the safety of other patrons or staff members. In the case of a juvenile causing a disruption, the librarian will caution the juvenile about his/her possible dismissal. If the behavior continues, the librarian will call a parent or guardian to request that the juvenile be removed. In the event that no adult can be reached, the police may be contacted. The Library Director may request that the juvenile not return unattended by an adult. Approved by the Canton Public Library Board of Trustees 9/13/2006
