From the DirectorA warm welcome to the Canton Public Library! This library serves the Town of Canton by providing collections, services, and programs to support the general information, cultural, educational, and leisure-time needs of its residents. Our “menu of offerings” has something for everyone and is appropriate for library users from birth through old age. Our collection includes books, popular magazines, newspapers, audio books, DVDs, videotapes, compact discs, and online resources. Reference, interlibrary loan, and item-hold services are provided in person, over the telephone, and via email and the Internet. The library hosts special events that entertain and inform adults, teenagers and children. These include story hours for children between the ages of two and five, summer reading programs for students, group visits for tours and library orientation, book discussion clubs for all ages, visits by artisans and performers, rotating displays of collectibles and artwork, and other special offerings. At the Canton Public Library, visitors have access to a self-service photocopy machine, an electronic typewriter, computers linked to the Internet, black-and-white and color printers, online information databases, Canton's online library collection catalog, and the online catalogs of most other libraries in the State of Connecticut. Many of our resources and services can be utilized from remote locations via the library's website, located at www.cantonpubliclibrary.org. We offer word processing and spreadsheet software for public use. Homebound residents may enroll in our home delivery service, through which books and audiovisual materials can be delivered to those who cannot visit the library on their own. Our borrower cards are valid for use in every public library in the state, and we welcome use of our library by those who live outside of Canton. In order to provide the best possible service to our community, the Canton Public Library participates in several area, regional, and statewide collaborative organizations that enhance our collections, services, and programs. The library’s Board of Trustees and staff strive to provide excellent library and information services to the citizens of Canton in a friendly, cost-effective, and efficient manner. The Canton Public Library offers so much to enrich the lives of all who pass through its doors! Please take some time to explore our website, which tells you a great deal about us and what we have and do. And, of course, do not fail to visit the library in person. This attractive and comfortable facility is yours, and we encourage you to use it frequently. See you at the library! Robert Simon
