Tax Forms and Other Government Documents
Voter registration forms are available at the library throughout the year. Also, between January and April, we have supplies of most federal and state income tax forms.
You can also access many of these forms online:
Connecticut voter registration forms
Federal tax forms
State of Connecticut tax forms
The library owns Personal Forms on File, a set of more than 100 reproducible forms covering areas such as college application, financial aid, personal property, health benefits, veterans' benefits, real estate, and personal legal needs. This book can be found in our reference section.
Notary Service
The Canton Public Library has a notary on staff. Our notary is pleased to provide this service to library visitors free-of-charge. Please call ahead and schedule an appointment, as the notary is not on-site during all library hours.
The following are the rules of our notary service:
- The requestor must provide the notary with a valid form of photo identification, such as a driver’s license or a passport. Notaries are not allowed to sign documents unless they are certain that the requestor is who he or she claims to be.
- The requestor must sign the document(s) to be notarized in front of the notary, not in advance.
- A document to be notarized must consist of a legal form. It cannot be a handwritten or typed piece of paper.
- The notary will maintain a journal wherein each transaction will be recorded, as per Connecticut state law.
- If the state referred to in the legal notary form is other than Connecticut, the notary will cross out the state cited and replace it with the words “State of Connecticut”. The library notary holds credentials only in Connecticut.
- Information to be notarized must appear printed on the document pages. The notary will not notarize blank pages or pages not related to the body of the document.
