Websites of the MonthEach month, our reference staff will select two websites to spotlight: one for teens and one for adults. Check back every month for our new selections! (Sites will be posted around the middle of each month.) CPL Website Spotlight: Teens Sometimes it seems that nothing is unique anymore. Etsy can change your mind. Etsy’s slogan is Buy, Sell, and Live Handmade. It is a community to link people selling their handmade goods to the sellers who want them. It is also a great place to look for inspiration and feast your eyes on unique, handmade beauty from over 150 countries. CPL Website Spotlight: Adults This site, better known as “The Wayback Machine,” is an archive of publicly accessible websites. If you have every been devastated or confused when a website changed its format or just disappeared, this library will open up a whole new world for you. You can search for archived versions of a site by typing in the URL (web address). You can select a date range or just browse through the archived versions. The Internet Archive is working with institutions such as The Library of Congress and the Smithsonian to preserve the digital content of the Internet and make it as accessible to the public as the present collections of public libraries. There is a section explaining how web crawlers collect the websites for the Archive and facts on how to submit sites to the Archive that the crawlers miss. The Wayback Machine also indexes texts, audio, moving images and software. If you don’t know where the nickname came from, watch some Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons.
